For my final project at uni I had to design and make a 5 outfit collection. Above is my initial proposal. I developed the ideas from my primary research, shown in previous posts! All of the pieces are made now. Some will be one off's, but I will be putting some of them in my etsy shop soon, so be sure to keep checking back.

'Castaway' SS11 design ideas
When I got back to England I carried on my research and visited the British museum, where I took photos of shells and fossils, which had similar textures to those I found in Australia. This inspired me to create a new form of pleating, which I experimented with.
'Castaway' SS11 research
Whilst I was living in Sydney last year I spent the most amazing day at the royal national park, about an hr and a half south. I went with my friends and we walked for about 4km across rugged cliffs overlooking the ocean, before stopping for a picnic at a secluded beach. I took heaps (over 200!) photos and ended up using them for my final project at university. Above shows some of the amazing scenery, the close up shots were used as research in my project, I love the natural textures and layered look. I like to mix things up in my design work, so used strong shapes influenced by the rocks, and soft drape to represent the ocean.
Welcome!
Hi, I'm Vicki, the creative force behind Karrah designs (pronounced 'Ka-rah', it's my nickname!)! The brand is something that I have just fallen into. It all started a few years ago when I made my mum a necklace for her birthday, she got a lot of people asking where she got it and before I knew it I was selling commission pieces through word of mouth. A friend told me about etsy and I set up my shop as a way of getting some extra cash to pay for my University fee's. As well as running Karrah, I am studying in England for a degree in Fashion with manufacture, marketing and promotion, due to graduate very soon, fingers crossed! I used to live in Australia, where I worked for Australian fashion designer Alice McCall. It was an amazing opportunity and I miss it everyday! I'm looking forward to finishing Uni so I can go travelling again, I find it really inspiring and there are so many places that I want to visit before I 'settle down'! On this blog I am going to be sharing my creative process, the travelling, the design development and the finished pieces. I will also be showing you other designers that I love and showcasing the work of other up and coming artisans. As this is my first blog I am keen to hear your thoughts and suggestions....so please feel free to leave comments!
